The Klinikum Region Hannover (KRH) was established in 2002 as Germany's second largest municipal hospital network with total of 12 medical centers. The Klinikum Region Hannover acquired a further center in 2008 and set up a servicing company with some 760 staff in the same year. The KRH serves a catchment area of around the size of the Saarland (2,569 km' or 992 sq miles) and treats some 130,000 inpatients and 180,000 outpatients per year. With around 8,500 staff, including 630 nursing profession trainees alone, the Klinikum Region Hannover also plays an important role as an employer in the region.
The Klinikum Region Hannover has gained national and international renown with some of its hospitals and special forms of medical treatment, such as the method of weaning patients off mechanical ventilation following long-term respiration. The Klinikum Oststadt-Heidehaus is responsible for coordinating the treatment of international guests and acts as a clearing house to make your arrival and stay as comfortable as possible. The Klinikum Oststadt-Heidehaus offers international patients top-class accommodation options while they undergo inpatient treatment. A multilingual service team provides special care and support as necessary to ensure that all the patient's needs are met.
The Medical Centers of the Klinikum Region Hannover are located in the city itself or within a radius of around 30 km. So even here, our philosophy of short distances applies. Our network was not created in a day. In fact, we can look on a tradition that extends back to 1787 with a military field hospital that operated on this site untiI 1872. Indeed, the 19th century witnessed the greatest increase in the number of hospitals opening in Lower Saxony as a result of the further scientification of medicine. All the hospitals in the KRH network are Academic Teaching Hospitals of the Hannover Medical School (MHH).
Despite their very different histories, all 13 hospitals in the Klinikum Region Hannover share one and the same goal: To provide excellent top-class medical care and treatment through the very best physicians.
